Relocating to a new office space brings fresh opportunities to explore an unfamiliar area. For us, this means settling into the vibrant Design Center, where diverse dining options abound. Our previous location near Sweetwater Harvest Kitchen was convenient, but now we find ourselves surrounded by several new eateries right beneath our feet. From Pizza Centro to Oasis and Cleopatra, these spots have quickly become part of our daily routine.
Pizza Centro has been a frequent stop for us since moving in. Known for its lunchtime slice and soda special, the downtown branch offers a quick and satisfying meal without the guilt. Despite being greasy, the pizza strikes a perfect balance between indulgence and portion control. Downtown remains the go-to spot for those craving authentic New York-style slices that don't leave you feeling overly stuffed.
Oasis Ice Cream Shop & Mexican Food, a hidden gem we've adored since 2020, also became a must-visit. Initially known for its unique milkshake-churro combo, it's the street tacos that recently caught our attention. For under , we enjoyed carne asada and carnitas tacos. The beef was tender and richly seasoned, while the pork was flavorful but slightly dry. Nonetheless, the generous portions and lively flavors made each bite worthwhile. Our next adventure at Oasis will involve their nacho fries—a twist on traditional nachos with crispy fries instead of tortilla chips.
Cleopatra, a Mediterranean haven, rounded out our week with its delectable sheesh tawook chicken sandwich. Served on warm, fluffy pita with homemade sauce, the marinated chicken was a flavor explosion. Our guest praised the crispy yet fluffy falafel, noting its fresh and herbaceous taste. This consistency in quality makes Cleopatra a likely regular haunt for us.
Beyond the culinary delights of the Design Center, it's important to recognize the value of community and support. The closure of Saveur Bistro marks the end of an era, reminding us of the importance of cherished local institutions. Meanwhile, Palace Prime's partnership with World Central Kitchen highlights how restaurants can contribute positively to global causes. These examples underscore the significance of supporting local businesses and fostering a sense of community, ensuring that everyone thrives together.
